Restore the factory backlighting in select Mercedes-Benz VDO instrument clusters with this six-piece incandescent bulb kit.

The kit contains four miniature twist-lock bulbs and two larger wedge bulbs used to illuminate the lower information displays and main gauge area of compatible clusters. It is intended for later-style VDO clusters featuring three separate LCD windows along the bottom of the speedometer assembly.

These are factory-style incandescent bulbs that preserve the cluster’s original warm illumination color and dimming operation.

𝗖𝗹𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

The compatible cluster normally has three separate LCD windows along the lower edge:

• Left display for the clock or transmission information
• Center multifunction, odometer or message display
• Right outside-temperature display

The rear of the cluster must also have the same removable bulb sockets and wedge-bulb holders shown in the listing photographs.

Mercedes used different VDO and Motometer cluster versions during overlapping production years. Vehicle year and model alone do not guarantee compatibility.

𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗯 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀

The two larger bulbs are clear 12-volt, 2-watt wedge-style instrument bulbs. They install into the vehicle’s reusable original sockets.

• Bulb style: 12V 2W capless wedge

Mercedes used more than one rating for the smaller twist-lock positions, including 12V 1.2W and 12V 1.5W versions depending on cluster production date and application.

Common reference numbers may include:

• N00000000953 — 12V 1.2W
• N910141000000 — 12V 1.5W

Compare the wattage, socket, base color and locking-tab arrangement with the original bulbs. Base color alone should not be used as the only identification method because replacement manufacturers may use different colors.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗞𝗶𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿

This kit may correct:

• Dark or uneven gauge illumination
• A lower LCD that is visible during daylight but dark at night
• One side of the cluster appearing dim
• Burned-out incandescent backlighting
• A dark clock, temperature or multifunction-display area

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗞𝗶𝘁 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿

This bulb kit will not correct:

• Missing, broken or fading LCD pixels
• Incomplete numbers or letters
• Damaged LCD ribbon cables
• A completely inoperative instrument cluster
• Failed gauges or stepper motors
• Blown fuses, damaged wiring or circuit-board problems
• Illumination problems caused by the dashboard dimmer
• Warning-light or indicator positions that use different bulbs

If the display is illuminated but characters are missing, the problem is usually related to the LCD or ribbon connection rather than the backlight bulbs.

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

Do not order solely by year, model or engine.

Remove or inspect the existing cluster and compare:

• Cluster manufacturer
• Three-LCD face arrangement
• Rear socket layout
• Bulb quantity
• Bulb wattage
• Locking-tab configuration
• Wedge-bulb size

Early W202, W208 and W210 clusters may use a different arrangement. Motometer clusters and clusters without three separate lower displays may require different bulbs.

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Professional installation is recommended.

1. Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal according to the vehicle service procedure.

3. Remove the instrument cluster using the correct cluster-removal tools.

4. Disconnect the electrical plugs without pulling on the wiring.

5. Turn each small bulb holder counterclockwise to remove it.

6. For the larger wedge bulbs, remove the original socket, pull the old bulb straight out and press the new bulb into the reusable socket.

7. Reinstall each holder by turning it clockwise until seated.

8. Reconnect the cluster and test the illumination before completing dashboard reassembly.

Do not switch on the ignition while the cluster is disconnected. Avoid touching the glass bulbs with bare hands, and do not install a higher-wattage bulb than specified because excess heat can damage the cluster housing or display.

Bulb replacement normally does not require vehicle coding.

• Four miniature Original OSRAM 12V 1.2W bulbs with twist-lock bases (Display Illumination)
• Two clear 12V 2W wedge bulbs (Gauge Illumination)

The yellow wedge-bulb sockets, instrument cluster, removal tools and other dashboard components are not included unless specifically shown.
