𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸
Before ordering, open the original control head and compare:
• Overall LCD dimensions
• Display-segment and icon arrangement
• Contact locations
• Conductive-strip positions
• Internal reflector and LCD-surround design
• Model and product number on the rear identification label
Do not purchase from the front-panel appearance alone. Raymarine produced several similar-looking control heads with different internal LCD configurations.
𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗿
• ST7000 or ST7000+ control heads
• ST6000, ST6001, or ST6002 control heads
• ST8001 or ST8002 rotary control heads
• ST70, p70, or p70s controllers
• Any control head with different LCD dimensions, contacts, or segment layout
The ST7001 and ST7002 designations shown on the original control head should match before purchase.
𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿
• Yellowed or darkened LCD
• Sun and heat damage
• Delaminated display layers
• Bubbles, wrinkles, or internal blotches
• Cracked LCD glass
• Faded or unreadable characters
• Missing segments caused by LCD failure
• Poor contrast that remains after adjustment
• Intermittent segments caused by deteriorated conductive strips
𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿
• A control head that does not power on
• Failed circuit board or power-supply components
• Defective keypad or control buttons
• Failed illumination or backlighting
• SeaTalk or NMEA communication problems
• Course-computer or software faults
• Defective compass, rudder sensor, or drive unit
• Water-damaged or corroded electronics
• Damaged external wiring or connectors
Missing segments can also be caused by contaminated contacts, incorrectly positioned conductive strips, inadequate assembly pressure, or PCB damage. Diagnose the original unit before ordering.
𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
Installation requires disassembling the control head and accurately positioning the replacement LCD and conductive strips.
• Disconnect vessel power before servicing
• Use electrostatic-discharge protection
• Photograph the original component positions
• Avoid touching the LCD contact surfaces
• Clean the contact areas using an electronics-safe method
• Position both conductive strips evenly
• Confirm correct reflector and surround alignment
• Tighten the housing evenly without overtightening
• Inspect the case seal and mounting gasket
• Test every display segment and control-head function before final installation
Opening the control head may compromise its weather seal. Replace deteriorated sealing components and ensure the housing is properly sealed before reinstalling it aboard the vessel.
Professional marine-electronics installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with instrument-panel repair.

𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲
An autopilot is a navigation aid and must not replace attentive supervision at the helm. After completing the repair, test the display, keypad, alarms, standby function, course-change controls, and steering response before returning the autopilot to normal service.
