Raymarine used similar-looking control heads across several generations. Before ordering, open the control head and compare:

โ€ข LCD dimensions ย
โ€ข Segment and icon arrangement ย
โ€ข Contact locations ย
โ€ข Conductive-strip positions ย
โ€ข Internal housing and reflector design ย
โ€ข Model and product number on the rear identification label ย

Do not order solely from the appearance of the front panel. ST7000 models without the plus symbol may use a different display.

โ€ข A control head that does not power on ย
โ€ข Failed PCB or internal power-supply components ย
โ€ข Defective illumination lamps or backlighting ย
โ€ข Damaged keypad or buttons ย
โ€ข SeaTalk or NMEA communication faults ย
โ€ข Course-computer, compass, rudder-reference, or drive-unit problems ย
โ€ข Water-damaged electronics ย
โ€ข Corroded wiring or external connectors ย

Diagnose the control head before ordering. Missing segments can also result from dirty contacts, incorrect assembly pressure, PCB damage, or improperly positioned conductive strips.

Installation requires disassembling the autopilot control head and correctly aligning the LCD, reflector, surround, and conductive strips. Soldering is not normally required for the LCD connection, but careful handling and accurate reassembly are essential.

โ€ข Disconnect vessel power before beginning ย
โ€ข Use electrostatic-discharge protection ย
โ€ข Photograph the original component positions before removal ย
โ€ข Do not touch the LCD contact edges with bare fingers ย
โ€ข Clean contact areas with an electronics-safe method ย
โ€ข Align both conductive strips evenly ย
โ€ข Tighten the housing uniformly without overtightening ย
โ€ข Inspect the case seal and bulkhead gasket before reassembly ย
โ€ข Test every display segment and control-head function before returning the vessel to service ย

Raymarineโ€™s ST7000+ service information recommends replacing the case seal during reassembly. Maintaining the unitโ€™s weather resistance is especially important in a marine installation.

Professional marine-electronics installation is recommended if you are not experienced with instrument-panel repairs.

An autopilot is a navigation aid and must not replace attentive manual supervision. After installation, thoroughly test the control head, alarms, steering response, standby function, and autopilot operation before normal use.
