This bulb is intended for the early E36 analog/manual HVAC panel with four removable rotary knobs and a removable plastic faceplate.

It is not intended for the later electronic automatic climate-control panel with a digital display and push buttons.

BMW used different control panels, bulb sockets, and HVAC configurations during the E36 production run. Production date and installed equipment are more reliable than model year alone.

Before ordering, confirm that:

• The vehicle has the analog four-knob HVAC panel
• A removable wedge bulb is located at the upper center of the panel
• The original socket and wiring remain reusable

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗯 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁

• Heating or air-conditioning performance problems

If the replacement bulb does not illuminate, inspect the original socket, wiring, fuse, dashboard dimmer, and illumination circuit.

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

1. Switch off the ignition and vehicle lighting.

2. Carefully pull the four HVAC control knobs straight off the panel.

3. Remove the two Phillips screws securing the plastic faceplate.

4. Carefully separate the faceplate from the climate-control assembly.

5. Locate the wedge bulb near the upper center of the panel.

6. Pull the old bulb straight out of its original socket.

7. Push the replacement bulb fully into place.

8. Test the illumination before reinstalling the faceplate and knobs.

9. Reassemble the panel and confirm that all controls operate correctly.

Use suitable trim tools and avoid excessive force. Dashboard plastics can become brittle with age. Do not pull on the socket wiring or overtighten the faceplate screws.
