BMW used different fuel systems within the same model and model year. Fitment must be confirmed using the OE number, engine, chassis, and production date.

• Some applications changed regulators during the model year  
• Certain E53 X5 applications require a production-date check  
• Later vehicles may use a regulator incorporated into the fuel filter  
• E46 models should not be assumed compatible solely because the vehicle is called a 323i or 328i  
• V12 engines may use more than one regulator; verify the quantity required  
• Diesel applications are not compatible  
• This is a 3.5-bar regulator and must not replace a 3.0-bar or differently rated component

These symptoms can also be caused by a failing fuel pump, clogged filter, leaking injector, vacuum leak, damaged fuel line, or engine-management fault. Test the fuel system before replacing parts.

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Fuel systems can remain pressurized after the engine is switched off. Relieve fuel pressure according to the appropriate BMW service procedure before removing the original regulator.

• Keep sparks, flames, cigarettes, and hot surfaces away  
• Disconnect the battery when specified by the service procedure  
• Inspect the regulator seat and retaining hardware  
• Use new seals or O-rings where required  
• Lubricate replacement seals only with an approved product  
• Check carefully for fuel leaks after installation  

Professional installation is recommended. Improper installation can cause fuel leakage, fire, engine damage, or an incorrect air/fuel mixture.
