No soldering is normally required. Installation involves opening the control head, removing the original display, positioning the replacement LCD and elastomeric connector strips, and carefully reassembling the housing.

Basic procedure:

  1. Disconnect all electrical power to the autopilot system.

  2. Remove the control head from the mounting location.

  3. Open the housing using the included instructions.

  4. Record the orientation of the original LCD, diffuser, contact strips, and internal components.

  5. Remove the original LCD and elastomeric connectors.

  6. Clean the PCB contact surfaces carefully using an electronics-safe method.

  7. Install the two new elastomeric contact strips.

  8. Position the replacement LCD in the correct orientation.

  9. Reassemble the unit evenly without overtightening the fasteners.

  10. Test every display segment before reinstalling the control head.

Incorrect screen orientation, uneven pressure, contaminated contacts, or misaligned elastomeric strips can cause missing segments or an unreadable display.

Inspect the housing gasket and sealing surfaces while the controller is open. A damaged, flattened, or contaminated gasket can allow moisture into the control head.

A replacement gasket is not listed as part of this kit. Ensure the housing is properly resealed before returning the controller to marine service.
