What Does the Bypass Module Do?
The factory passenger-seat occupancy system is designed to detect seat occupancy and communicate that information to the vehicle's supplemental restraint system.
When the original occupancy sensor or sensor mat fails, the vehicle may store an SRS/airbag fault and illuminate the airbag warning indicator.
This bypass module substitutes the occupancy-sensor signal and reports the passenger seat as occupied rather than physically detecting whether someone is sitting in the seat.
Installation
The unit is designed to connect to the appropriate passenger-seat occupancy sensor circuit, avoiding the need to disassemble the seat solely to replace the sensor mat.
Depending on the vehicle and existing faults, SRS fault codes may need to be cleared with a compatible diagnostic scan tool after installation.
Important Safety Information
This product does not repair or restore the original occupant-detection function of the seat sensor. Because it reports the passenger seat as occupied, the vehicle can no longer use the original sensor to determine actual seat occupancy in the normal manner.
Airbag and supplemental-restraint behavior depends on the vehicle's configuration and other SRS components. Installation of a bypass device may affect restraint-system operation and may not comply with regulations or inspection requirements in all jurisdictions.
For that reason, the factory-approved repair—diagnosing and replacing the defective occupancy-system component—is recommended for normal road use. Installation and SRS diagnosis should be performed by a qualified automotive technician.
