𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗡𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀

• E12119 – ST8001 surface-mount rotary control head
• E12119-P – ST8002 surface-mount rotary control head
• E12183 – ST8002 flush-mount rotary control head

E12121 identifies an autopilot system package rather than the LCD or individual control head. These reference numbers are supplied only to help identify the original equipment.

𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸

Raymarine produced several similar-looking autopilot control heads. Before ordering, disassemble the original unit and compare:

• LCD dimensions
• Display-segment and icon arrangement
• Contact locations
• Conductive-strip positions
• Internal reflector and housing design
• Model and product number on the rear label

Do not order from the front-panel appearance alone. ST8000-series control heads without the plus designation and other rotary Raymarine controllers may use different internal displays.

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿

• Yellowed or darkened LCD
• Sun and heat damage
• Delaminated display layers
• Bubbles, wrinkles, or blotches
• Cracked LCD glass
• Faded or unreadable characters
• Missing display segments caused by a defective LCD
• Poor contrast that remains after adjustment
• Intermittent segments caused by deteriorated conductive strips

𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗿

• A control head that does not power on
• Failed circuit board or power-supply components
• Defective keypad or rotary control
• Failed backlighting or illumination components
• SeaTalk or NMEA communication faults
• Course-computer or software problems
• Defective compass, rudder-reference sensor, or drive unit
• Water-damaged or corroded electronics
• Damaged wiring or external connectors

Missing or intermittent segments can also be caused by dirty contacts, improper conductive-strip alignment, insufficient assembly pressure, or PCB damage. Diagnose the original control head before ordering.

𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Installation requires disassembling the autopilot control head and carefully transferring the internal display components.

• Disconnect vessel power before servicing
• Use electrostatic-discharge protection
• Photograph all original component positions
• Avoid touching the LCD contact surfaces
• Clean the contact areas using an electronics-safe method
• Align both conductive strips evenly
• Confirm correct placement of the reflector and display surround
• Tighten the housing evenly without overtightening
• Inspect the housing seal and mounting gasket
• Test all display segments and control functions before final installation

A damaged or incorrectly seated housing seal can allow moisture into the control head. Replacement of aged sealing components is recommended whenever the unit is opened.

Professional marine-electronics installation is recommended if you are not experienced with instrument-panel repairs.

𝗣𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝘀

• One replacement LCD screen
• Two conductive elastomer strips

𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗱

𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲

An autopilot is a navigation aid and must never replace attentive supervision at the helm. After repair, thoroughly test the display, rotary control, keypad, alarms, standby function, steering response, and autopilot operation before returning the system to normal service.
