As the original capacitors age, they may leak, dry out, or drift out of specification. When capacitor failure is the underlying problem, replacement may restore proper speedometer or tachometer operation while allowing you to retain the vehicle’s original instrument cluster and odometer.

Instrument-cluster circuit boards can vary according to production date, market, engine, transmission, trim level, and cluster manufacturer. Before ordering, remove or inspect the original cluster and confirm that its capacitor values match the five values supplied with this kit.

When defective capacitors are confirmed as the cause, this kit may help correct:

Installation Information

Installation requires:

Instrument-cluster removal and disassembly
Electronic fault diagnosis
Desoldering the original capacitors
Cleaning any leaked electrolyte from the circuit board
Installing the new capacitors with correct polarity
Careful soldering without damaging circuit traces

Electrolytic capacitors are polarity-sensitive. Reversing the positive and negative leads may damage the capacitors or instrument cluster. Installation should be performed by someone experienced with circuit-board repair.
