Note: Fuel tank melting is typically caused by the following factors: 1. Fuel Composition Differences Modern gasoline often contains ethanol, particularly in ethanol-blended fuels like E10 and E15. Ethanol exhibits strong swelling properties, which can corrode or soften rubber and certain plastics, leading to expansion, deformation, or even dissolution of rubber components.
2. Rubber Material Issues If the internal rubber components of the fuel cap are not oil-resistant rubber (such as fluorocarbon rubber FKM / hydrogenated nitrile rubber HNBR), but ordinary rubber (like natural rubber or styrene-butadiene rubber), prolonged exposure to gasoline and fuel vapors can easily cause deformation, stickiness, and cracking.
3. Poor Fuel Quality or Contaminants Substandard gasoline or fuel stored for extended periods (which develops gum and acidic compounds) accelerates rubber aging and deformation. Temperature and Environmental Factors High temperatures increase internal tank pressure, exposing rubber components to greater gasoline vapor exposure, thereby accelerating rubber swelling and deterioration.
